Flat Fee Explained

A flat fee is a single fee charged by an attorney to cover a specific legal issue. For instance, a lawyer may charge a fixed amount to draft a will. If the lawyer expends more time or effort drafting the will the client is still only obligated to pay that “flat” fee that was agreed.

The fee charged will differ from lawyer to lawyer and from case to case due to complexity or time involved. You should always be presented with a written fee agreement that lays out exactly what this flat fee will be, if there are any payment arrangements possible, and what exactly will be performed by the lawyer in consideration for the flat fee. It is important to remember that the flat fee only applies to those services listed in the fee agreement. If the work performed by the lawyer goes beyond the scope of the original agreement, the lawyer should notify you in writing and is able to bill on an hourly basis for that work.

Attorney Mark Nichols offers flat fees for may areas of law including some misdemeanor criminal cases, DUIs, Wills & Trusts, business organization, and the like. Payment plans are available with no credit check and are clearly outlined in the fee agreement. Also, Mark Nichols never charges for an initial consultation!
